Traditions play an integral role in restoring a sense of normalcy as the world adjusts to a post-pandemic life. For universities, this means continuing traditions halted by safe distancing and home-based learning, such as Emory University’s Dooley’s Week.

Such is the rallying cry of Dooley, skeletal mascot of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. This spectral force acts through publicly unidentified students wearing a signature costume consisting of a skeleton with a black cape, a black top hat, and white gloves. He makes his presence known throughout the year in the form unpredictable appearances at campus events, and has the power to dismiss classes with a wave of his hand!

In 2022, springtime at Emory brought Dooley’s Week, a longstanding tradition with students enjoying a week full of activities that culminated with a concert dubbed Dooleypalooza.
